Online retail transactions still represent only 10 percent of all US transactions. Deep Dive Why consumers prefer to shop for nearly all products online Whether to research products, compare prices or actually make a purchase, shopping is increasingly going the way of the web. According to Value Retail News, factory stores report discounting their items by 38% on average. That’s not as high as you might imagine, but it’s not bad either. Another study by Consumer Reports , in which testers bought and compared similar items from outlet and regular locations, found that most outlet store goods were 3% to 72% cheaper than retail locations. The majority of people visit retail websites on a mobile device but use a computer to finalize the purchase. Mobile devices make up 53% of traffic to online stores, but only 37% of the revenue. Desktop users make up 32% of total traffic but 56% of purchases. Little browsing or purchasing is done on tablets.
